Cal Mag Essentials with Boron
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body and makes up about 2% of adult body weight. 99% of calcium is located in bones and teeth. The body cannot produce calcium; therefore, it must be absorbed through food or supplements. Minimum recommendations for daily calcium intake are set at 1,000 mg per day for ages 19-50. Many conditions, like overweight or obesity, require higher intakes for optimal health.
Calcium at a glance*
- Calcium is not produced in our bodies
- Vital for optimal health
- Accelerates fat loss during low calorie intake
- Fights bone loss
- Helps regulate heart rate and blood pressure
- Beneficial for muscle function
Chelated for Optimal Absorption
Calcium should be chelated for optimal absorption. Unfortunately, many calcium supplements are strictly in the form of “calcium carbonate”, which does not absorb well. Vitamin D also plays an important part in healthy bones and helps in the absorption of calcium.
This is why Dr. Tague’s Cal Mag Essentials is a complex of calcium, magnesium, vitamin D3, vitamin C, boron and glutamic acid. All of these components, in the proper ratios, provide a balanced absorption and delivery of nutrients for greatest effectiveness. Recommended daily dosages will depend upon calcium and magnesium intake and blood levels. Boron is a trace that has been shown to reduce calcium loss in the urine by as much as 30%.
Additional Functions of Calcium Include:
- Blood clotting
- Muscle contraction & relaxation
- Transmission of nerve impulses
- Production & activity of many enzymes & hormones
- Regulation of cell wall function
About Calcium: The King of Minerals
Calcium Assists Fat Loss and Weight Management
Calcium has been studied extensively for its beneficial role in weight management. Numerous studies have shown “statistically significant” effects from a high calcium intake, especially while limiting calories. Over the past 20 years dietary calcium has been associated with lower body weight. Studies have shown it helps suppress fat storage and accelerate fat loss during calorie restriction.
Calcium is Essential for Healthy Bones
While we are growing, until about age 30, our bodies build up calcium in our bones. Then, bone density tends to decline with aging. Since your body uses calcium for everyday functions, like muscle contraction, nerve function and blood clotting, if you do not consume enough calcium it will be taken from your bones, weakening them. A diet low in calcium, physical inactivity, or being a woman with decreasing estrogen levels can increase the risk of osteoporosis. Taking calcium reduces the chances of bone loss and promotes bone health.
Calcium’s Best Friend: Magnesium
Without magnesium, calcium cannot be fully effective. Calcium needs the help of magnesium for absorption into the blood and bones. Working together, calcium affects muscle contractions; magnesium balances that with relaxing the muscles. Magnesium also removes calcium from our soft tissues where it can build up and become harmful. Another important role of this combination is to help regulate heart rate and blood pressure.
Not All At Once
Absorption of calcium is greatest when taken in a dose of 500 mg or less, so for best results do not exceed 500 mg of calcium at one time; fortified beverages such as orange juice are not a reliable source of absorbable calcium. Women need more calcium than men, but men with prostate cancer should avoid calcium supplements.
A Shield Against Lead Poisoning
“Calcium prevents the absorption of lead in the gastrointestinal tract, so it never enters the bloodstream…the more calcium you have in your diet, the greater your protection against lead poisoning.” It has been observed in animals and humans that both the absorption and retention of lead decreases as calcium intake increases. BUT NOTE THAT plain calcium carbonate from fossilized “oyster shell” or “dolomite” may be contaminated with aluminum and lead and should be avoided.
